Aathichudi — 109 single-line aphorisms, one for each letter of the alphabet. Read it the way it was first read: leaf by leaf, on the ōlai.
Desire always to do right.
ஓலைச்சுவடி — Verses like these survived on strips of cured palm leaf, scratched with an iron stylus (எழுத்தாணி) and rubbed with lamp-soot so the letters rose dark from the fibre. Short works sat one line to a leaf; quatrains and the long agaval filled taller leaves, strung through a single hole and turned over the cord — exactly as you turn them here.
